Robin Fuehrer ~  CLC, Doula, Birth Photographer

About Me

Some unnecessary but very interesting details...

My name is Robin Fuehrer and I’m wife to a great husband and mom to three beautiful daughters, ages 13, 19 and 21 (I know! I don't look that old! That's because I'm not- I swear!). We are also a foster family so you never know who else might be in our family at any given time. I have "laugh lines" and a few freckles. I have lots of patience with everyone else's kids but sometimes run short with my own.

Where I came from & how I got here...

I grew up in Arizona and moved to San Diego, CA in 2001. Our time in California was incredible! It was like being on vacation for two and a half years. The weather there is perfect and the people wonderful! In January of 2004 we moved to Bismarck, North Dakota. Yes, you read that right, January. From sunny Southern California. It was below zero for the first few weeks we were here and I didn't see the ground until March. Oh, and I had just had our third daughter- she was two weeks old when we moved. I'm telling you all of this because I need you to know that in the eleven years that we've been here there hasn't been a single day that this wasn't home. There are days I'd like to jump on a plane and defrost for a week out west. There have been times that I have jumped on a plane and done that! For those of you native to North Dakota- yes, I have become one of you! I understand that this is an incredibly wonderful place to live and raise a family and this is where I want to be for the rest of my life. For those of you moving into the area I want to say that I understand. I know what it's like to be isolated. The first winter we were here I refused to drive anywhere for months. I was too afraid of that "black ice" that was surely waiting for me at every intersection! So the girls and I sat in the house wishing for something familiar, waiting for the snow to melt. I know a lot of people are moving here, whether its for work or just to find a stable economy. I want you to know that were glad you're here and I'd love to get to meet you.

From photographer to birth doula…

As a photographer I felt confident in my ability to tell the birth story in photos for a family. I have loved being used to create images that literally take my breath away, images that I go back and look at because the emotion is so deep that they never get old.

As I realized that I wanted to photograph birth and the first year exclusively I decided to invest in doula training. I thought it would help me to be more prepared to help support the laboring mom. I really didn’t expect that it would change the direction of my business. By the time the training was done I knew I would be pursuing certification as a doula. I was certified with DONA International in 2016 and have not looked backed! Providing Doula Support for moms and their partners is definitely what I was meant to do. (I didn't completely retire my camera as a doula though- I can't resist taking a few photos immediately after baby has arrived.) I have also become a Certified Lactation Counselor so I can offer Lactation Support as Mom begins her breastfeeding journey with a new little one.

And back to photographer again...

I will always be an artist and a photographer and I love getting the chance to do Birth Photography as well as doing doula work (although I can't be both your birth photographer and your doula at the same time... I only have so many hands!). What I really love is having the chance to continue the relationship with a birthing family though out the baby's first year with First Year Photography. It is an amazing privilege to be invited into a family's birth and being asked to come into the home and record all of the changes that happen in the months that follow birth is the very best compliment that can be paid me! I look forward to every visit, not just because I get to photograph beautiful families, but because I love the chance to visit with mom and dad and answer some of those questions that come up as baby gets older.

Well, getting to cuddle with the baby is a pretty big job perk too!

Robin’s personality is real/down to earth, it is honest, it is experienced, it is kind, strong, calm,....we knew we would be happy to invite her in our life for such a special moment...
